The NFL season has begun, and it's nothing but the usual suspects atop the MVP odds board.
The latest: A different player has won the NFL MVP in each of the last four seasons. Will that trend continue? The odds suggest otherwise. Josh Allen, the reigning MVP, is favoured to win. Lamar Jackson, who has claimed this award twice, is following closely behind.

NFL MVP odds
The favourites: Josh Allen (+325), Lamar Jackson (+500), Joe Burrow (+750)
Sunday's epic showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens showcased both Jackson and Allen's ceilings.
- Jackson: 14-of-19, 209 passing yards, 2 passing TDs, 70 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD
- Allen: 33-of-46, 394 passing yards, 2 passing TDs, 30 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs
Ultimately, Buffalo prevailed by erasing a 16-point deficit with four minutes to play, and that has Allen atop the board.
If you watch football, you know what that duo is capable of. Both will put up gaudy stat lines if healthy, so team success will likely factor into the voting once it's all said and done.
The same should be said for Joe Burrow, who did all he could for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024.
He led the league in passing yards (4,918) and touchdowns (43), but it still wasn't enough to drag his team into the playoffs.
Burrow threw for just 113 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 in a win.
Other top contenders
Justin Herbert (+1,500)
Bettors should consider Justin Herbert as a solid option to win MVP in 2025, especially after his lights-out season opener.
He threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns in an upset win against the Kansas City Chiefs.
L.A. used its first-round pick on running back Omarion Hampton before selecting wide receiver Tre Harris in the second round, so it's fair to assume the Chargers will continue improving in Jim Harbaugh's second campaign.
The head coach helped lift Los Angeles to the playoffs in his first season, and a divisional title could be next as it looks to topple the Chiefs in the AFC West.
NFL betting notes
- Jayden Daniels (+1,000) won Rookie of the Year in an impressive freshman season. His ability to run is similar to Jackson's, making him a threat to also post gaudy totals through the air and on the ground. These odds do seem a little short, however, for a second-year player.
- Is Baker Mayfield (+3,500) being disrespected? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB finished third in passing yards (4,500) and tied for second in touchdowns (41) last season. Another truly stellar season could make him a legitimate threat for MVP.
